Grandma Stella recounts a charming story about her husband Peter’s love for bicycles and a unique trade he made with a Hungarian furniture restorer. It highlights his generosity and a sweet memory.
My husband, Peter, was a cycling buff. He collected bicycles which he rode. Some were very dear to him. They still hang in the basement and in the garage. Others were a short-time fancy. After he was done with them, he would spruce them up and give to some deserving kid. By his office, there was a shop owned by a Hungarian. He restored antique furniture. One day, the Hungarian took a fancy to one of Peter’s bicycles. As a matter of fact, at the same time, Peter fancied a wood and leather rocking chair at his shop. They made a deal. Peter would give him the bicycle, and the Hungarian would give him the rocking chair in return.
